I am steadily catching up!

The Warriors of Kyoshi

The King of Omashu
  • oh Aang. ("Bonzu Pipinpadaloxicopolis ... the Third!!!")

  • and hallo thar, Cabbage Man. (also witness him defending his cabbages' honor!)

  • I love the slide sequence! Just thought I would note this. And the music, oh gosh, can I marry the Track Team?

  • The dinner with Bumi (BUUUUUUMI ♥) is so hilariously awkward. Sokka's belated hilarity in response to Bumi's horrible joke is my favorite. As is Aang's Avatar speech as he attempts to leave.

(also, I am convinced the shot of Bumi eating the lettuce leaf is a weird reference to Denethor in The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King but this is probably in my head. at least: it reminds me of it!)

  • I find this episode so excessively hilarious but, what else is new, this is Avatar!

    Obviously, especially this exchange:
Bumi: But for now, the guards will show you to your chamber.
Guard: My liege, do you mean the good chamber, or the bad chamber?
    Bumi: The newly refurbished chamber.
Guard: Wait, which one are we talking about?
Bumi: The one that used to be the bad chamber, until the recent refurbishing that is. Of course, we've been calling it the new chamber, but we really should number them. Uh, take them to the refurbished chamber that was once bad!

    [...]

Katara: This is a prison cell? But it's so nice.
Aang: He did say it was newly refurbished.

The humor there strikes me as vaguely Monty Pythonesque, for whatever reason.

Oh Zuko. Also, non sequitur, but I have always found it immensely hilarious how Zuko takes the fish out of the room with him (and Iroh's pout that follows) for whatever reason. SUCH A DWEEB. ♥

The dregree of his dweebery in season 1 surprised my at every rewatch. The meditation scene and the fish scene always make me laugh.

The little Katara/Aang scenes are so cute. I don't really read them as romantic at that moment, because the way they express their feelings is very childlike and I feel uncomfortable about "sexing" them up, but there is a little mixture of having a crush and being best friends forever.

I think that Avatar has occasional Monty Pythone moments in its crazier episodes. I have always considered Avatar Day as the "British" episode that gave me the strongest Monty Python vibes, but you raise a good point with the dialogues and the silly wordgames in The King of Omashu

The Katara/Aang is definitely more doofy kids who kindamaybelike each other in a doofy, kiddish way. I so enjoy the kids acting their age in romance. it's adorable.

Oh, Avatar Day! That's so true. I've always found that episode so inexplicably hilarious ("please stop on community service!!!") while I know it is not as universally loved as most Avatar episodes are. but it is certainly very British, which miiiiight just be why it appeals so strongly to my sense of humor.

Oh, good, I wasn't the only one who was picking that up. xD

I heart Zuko and his dweebishness oh so much! The "I was saving it for later!" was one of my unexpected LOL moments. xD

My brain is completely programmed to read everything as a callback LotR, but that is much more reminiscent of the actual shot than many of the things I choose to read that way. So!

SEASON ONE ZUKO. <3333

but my favorite moment is their mutual smirk of respect
OH YES!!! Still my favorite Sukka moment-even including all the stuff in TBR.
They are just...such friends (in the teasing rivalry kind of way) who respect each other...and the importance of respect cannot be understated....and totally think the other is hot.

An under appreciated avatar extra.

Now that you mention it, me too. Good stuff.

PS-Sokka was right, the fish was doing all the work.
